The Art Of
Leather

Besides tools I had a desire to play with
knives and a penchant for carving
things out of tree bark. That penchant
for carving turned into creating many
different types of leather pieces as an
adult. Love working with blades and
knives of varying thickness, love
carving antiquities and mythology
scenes, symbols, and figures into
pieces of leather. I favor the material for
its inherent juxtapositions: it is both
functional and aesthetic, ancient and
modern, sensual and masculine.

By employing leather as both medium
and material, we bring its primal,
ancient qualities into the modern era. At
the same time, we pay homage to
ancient traditions through the alchemy-
based symbols and imagery we
chose to carve. DCLA simultaneously
integrates it’s leather shop with art
studio to create some amazing pieces.
